Elan Valley Lodge Challenge Saturday June 2nd 2018

The Challenge: To raise the final £5,000 needed to replace our Community Accessible Car. The Arches and Elan Valley Lodge have teamed up to stage the Elan Valley Lodge Community Fund Raising Challenge.

Challenge yourself, family and friends, have a great day out and help a vital service for our Community.

·         Canoe or Kayak on Caban Coch Reservoir

·         Complete the “Leap of Faith” A High Ropes Challenge.

·         Take part in a stunning walk in the fantastic scenery of the Elan Estate

Once we know what you would like to do we can give you your time for the start in the Elan Village. At the finish we will have refreshments, hot dogs and a chance celebrate your success.

Anyone can take part? All we ask is that each adult raises at least £60 in sponsorship. Each participating adult can be accompanied by one child age 7 to 16. (More info on the entry form).

The Activities:

Our two person sit on kayaks and two or three person open Canoes are all very stable and suitable for beginners. You will be given a demonstration and provided with a personal buoyancy aid before paddling around the circular course. Qualified instructors will supervise and our rescue boat will be there in no time if you need assistance.

There will be 2 walking routes so that you can choose your own level of challenge. For those wanting a longer walk Archie, our Community minibus, will take you to Craig Goch Dam for the 8 km walk to the Sawmill where you can take part in the other activities and then walk 4.5 kms back to the Village. The shorter routes will go from the Village direct to the Sawmill and back approximately 4 kms each way. If one way is enough for you Archie will be on hand to give you a lift from the sawmill back to the finish.

For your “Leap of Faith” you climb a rope ladder to a platform suspended on steel cables up in the trees. Once you are on the platform you simply leap off into thin air! It’s a challenge but its great fun and you will be smiling as you are lowered to the ground by the dual safety rope system. Safety is paramount so you will be closely supervised by an expert instructor.

Entries: Please complete the entry form and drop it into the Arches or Elan Valley Lodge. Be quick there are only 100 places available.

What to bring: Food and drink for the day. For high ropes it’s walking shoes/boots or stout trainers. For the canoeing it’s old shoes that will get wet and a complete change of clothes just in case! For the walk, waterproofs and suitable clothes.
